I used to watch Defenders of the Earth as a kid ... not sure why Flash Gordon was in a kind of He-Man type cartoon with superhero type characters ... but I watched it anyway as it was pretty cool !!! The bad guy is of course Ming the Merciless and with his army of evil accomplices he aims to to eliminate the human race (like most villains do). The Defenders Of The Earth are the only ones who can stop him so Flash Gordon, Phantom and Mandrake use their powers for good !!! This movie was produced after the TV series and tries to create a kind of "secret origins" feel that many of the DC/Marvel comic characters have enjoyed ... am not too sure if it works but it is still entertaining !!! Give it a go ... it's got a catchy theme tune !!!!!
