Comes with some assembly needed but no instructions on how to. Most of it is straight forward but you need to know to tap the chuck on with a hammer or it will fall off when drilling. Never having used a drill press before it was easy to use once everything set up. I did find the power control buttons a bit awkward to get to and think it may have been better on the same side as the plunger control instead of the opposite side but that may be just me. Changing the speed setting also seemed quite primative by having to change the belt position on a set of pullies at the top of the machine. It may pay to also invest in a pillar drill clamp to make life easier if you plan to use it a lot. Having said all this I would recommend this for a DIY user, the price is great, the build quality seems very good - for under £60 you cannot expect all the whistles and bells. It certainly did the job I needed it for.Read full review

Ok, so bearing in mind I only needed this for a small job and this was the cheapest drill press i could find... Good points: it works, the chuck goes round and with a decent drill bit it will make holes in metal and wood... and its cheap. Bad points: Quality is on the verge of appalling... when i unboxed it, the pulley cover didn't close, and you could see a dent on the rim where someone had tried to force it. They hadn't even included the bolt which should have held the cover closed. The drill table isn't square to the drill spindle, and the table itself is too small to fit any commercially available drill vices. I did email Dirty Pro Tools asking if they sold, or knew of, any suitable vices, and they haven't even responded. As to the "cast iron construction"... the stand and drill table are pressed steel, so I can only assume the actual body is cast iron. Not really impressed...Read full review

This Pillar Drill is simply superb value for money. I could tell from the moment I opened the box and saw the well manufactured and its neatly packed components. Assembly is intuitive and simple in about 30mins. I never had to use the Instructions. The Pillar Drill is pretty quiet and has pro On/Emergency OFF Push switches. The Chuck Key fits ok for me. This item has paid for itself in the first job I tackled - making M3 tapped holes in some expensive plumbing taps, to secure them firmer. Job done! I love this Pillar Drill, suitable for medium/light precision drilling jobs, 1.5 - 13mm. Highly Recommended, thanks. PS You'll need a 2 to 4 inch opening Vice, to firmly hold the workpiece. I am delighted to report that the Pillar dill can be run from a 12V car battery, using a cheap 1500W Inverter. Also, being used to Pro machine tools, I was really pleased with the versatile, strong, Perspex Chuck Guard. PS Even my Pro Battery Hammer drill will stall drilling 32mm holes in wood.Read full review

Ok.. lets start with the good stuff. It's cheap, in fact it's the cheapest one I have seen. It works, it is easy to manoeuvre and stable to use. With a large bit in the chuck [and it can take a large bit], it struggles somewhat, but with gentle applied pressure it did the job. The worst thing I found was that the motor heats up very quickly, so constant use is a NoNo. Also the milled flat work plate is about 1/16th inch leaning down towards me, so shims under the vice are helpful. All in all, an OK tool as long as you do not abuse it. And let's face it what do you really expect for less than 60 quid delivered to your door. If you want a better drill then you'd better spend in excess of £200.00

Nothing is scimped. The item is robust. It does not even need instructions to assemble. Good quality materials. Proper stop start buttons. Speed control is simple but a middle speed will do fine for most things. Very heavy for its size but not cumbersome, will fit in small space. Well finished. Good packaging. Certainly reccomend, wish I had got one years ago.
