I'm a bit of a fan of the early Dr Who and feel that some of the later Tom Baker ones lose their direction and are more a vehicle for Douglas Adams' jokes. He didn't write this one but I think he was script editor or something. However the plot sounded good so I paid up and I wasn't disappointed. Some reviewers say that the monsters lack the scary factor but they are better than I expected after reading what people said! The acting of the supporting characters flags a bit in the last episode but, after all, it is only Dr Who, not the Royal Shakespeare Company. A "pre-owned" DVD is only a few quid these days and if you like traditional Dr Who I think you'll find it's money well spent.
