An excellent 'Christmas' episode of Doctor Who featuring Kylie Minogue. The story revolves around a ship in space called the Titantic which is about to crash - well there's a surprise - only this time it is not into an iceberg but Earth - well the ship is in space not at sea! Kylie plays a waitress on board the striken ship. (That uniform does it for me you never quite know whether they are tights or stockings!!!). To me the story is totally based around the Posiden Adventure and tis spoils it as Russell Davis - ought to use something original in his stories rather than cribbing from others. (Sorry but I do not like his Direction - the stories on telly are to rushed and hurried mostly all over in one episode with the occasional one going to two - where are the cliffhangers - draw them out over three or four weeks - get bakc to the good old days of Doctor Who!!) Nevertheless there are plently of surprises and special effects. The DVD also has a special bonus - Time Clash the Children in Need Special starring David Tennant as The Doctor and making a reappeared as The Doctor - Peter Davison.Read full review
Anybody who was expecting a run of the mill Titanic story will be pleasantly surprised as this Titanic is a spaceship not a steamship! Voyage of the Damned is probably one of the best episodes of the new series with an unsual mix of Doctor Who and disaster movie! The sexual chemistry between David Tennant and Kylie Minogue is the best since his real-life girlfriend Sarah Miles in The Girl in the Fireplace although the robotic "Angels" are rather one dimensional villains as is Max Steele. Kylie is a useful stand in for Freema Agyemang and makes you wonder how good Series 4 would have been with Astrid as companion instead of the irritating Donna. Amusing cameo from Bernard Cribbins as the news vendor who ironically turns out (in the next episode, Partners in Crime)to be Donna's granddad! Also included on the disc are the Comic Relief Special with Peter Davison and a Doctor Who Confidential cutaway showing behind the scenes action. This disc is certainly a welcome addition to any fan's collection and David Tennant does seem to get better every year so I'm looking forward to his forthcoming specials!Read full review
At first I wasn't too sure about Kylie being in an episode but the David/Kylie combination really worked, great special effects and all in all an excellent Christmas special from the Dr. Who team.
