This is the debut album of London-based Indie band, Dogs. Released in 2005, Turn against this land is obviously influenced by bands such The Jam and The Clash but brings a modern take to proceedings. After hearing London Bridge (a fantastically energetic ditty with one of the most difficult to remember choruses I've heard in some time - "When battered heads dissemble and descend into a mass upon the city, When bleeding hearts awake from single beds and paint themselves so very pretty") I was intrigued to hear more of what this band had to offer. Having been disappointed by albums that I'd only heard one song from previously, I bought this as cheap as I could possibly get it (£3.99 inc. postage) figuring it was only a small amount of money to waste. I shouldn't have worried. Upon first listen, two or three songs stood out, including the aforementioned London Bridge and Heading for an early grave, but overall I was unsure of the rest of the album. A couple of listens later and I was completely hooked. On the whole, lyrically good with an occasional awkward phrase (which only adds to the character of the band) coupled with some bouncy and well-played guitar/bass lines and very tight drumming makes for an excellent debut album. If you are a fan of high-energy Indie or bands such as The Jam and The Clash, I would highly recommend getting this album. Give it a few listens and allow it to mature and, like a fine wine, you will not be disappointed.Read full review
Never heard of this band untill i saw them locally.... They blew me away.... Lyrically and musically brilliant. A cross between The Jam and the Sex pistols.. They should be huge.
