great router easy to configure for voip ************************************************************************************************************
I have DrayTek 2600s, 2800s and 2820s. They are all rock solid and I use them in all my homes. UPSIDE: Stability and reliability is essential when you manage them remotely, and they deliver this. Their features add huge value. The hardware accelerated VPNs on these devices really performs and allow me get good performance access to things like the BBC iPlayer, when not in the UK. The only other routers that can perform like this are the commercial Cisco routers – if you can afford them. Another excellent feature is the Wireless Distribution Service (WDS) that allows some 2600s and all 2800/2820s to bridge networks, while still acting as Wireless Routers. This is so valuable when you need broad or increased wireless coverage. Having removable aerials also allows you to fit long range directional aerials to make big wireless bridge jumps with WDS– 1km+++. WDS is relatively easy to set up, as is the VPN. The 2600s are only ADSL with no ADSL 2 or 2+ so are now not so useful – except they make excellent, stable, Wireless Access Points at a low price - just disable DHCP and set an IP address within your LAN range. When used with ADSL, they all give you an excellent graphical display of the ADSL channel status, giving you a level of visibility of any issues, that is difficult to find elsewhere. These are just a few of the features that add real value to these routers. DOWNSIDE: You need to go to the 2820(n) if you are using fibre or cable modems.Read full review
I have had lots of routers from the cheap and cheerful D-link to the more expensive Cisco and US-Robotics. Nothing has been better than this Draytek 2800 series. I own 2 now and use one of them for VPN into my holiday home and port forwarding the security cameras. I can't physically touch the router when I am not there so can't re-boot them with the on/off switch, so they have to be 100% reliable. I have never had a problem and even if I did have a problem I am quite confident that I could log on remotely and fix it. They are a bit more complicated to set up but the set-up wizard will be fine for 90% of users. Now that the 2820 series is available these 2800 machines are going for sensible money.
I have used the DRAYTEK routers at many customer sites for many years and always found them to be extremely reliable and stable. They perform as well as products costing twice as much and the suppliers support website is excellent. Great choice for business users, with excellent, stable VPN features.
