We all aspire to somethings and owning an E type was my aspiration for more than 40 years. I now own one and have many books on the subject of their history and maintenance as they are really quite basic compared to modern cars. This book looked like it would fill a few gaps and was a real time experience so I bought it. I skimmed through the pages and liked what I saw, but I was very disappointed with one feature that even the author acknowledged was an oversight and that was the recording of the removal of the differential. Other than this major oversight I did enjoy the rest of the book which did actually cover a few of the problems all us fellow owners and sufferers alike endure but are often skipped over as they make bad copy or boring reading. I think the book was an honest detailed rebuild and was probably done to recover some fo the cost of that rebuild. It is true that most E type owners fall into one of three categories. First are those who literally pay huge sums of money for the restoration of their own cars and then these csrs become mobile works of art, rarely seen or used. Second are those who learn all they can and do most of the work themselves and have pride in what they have done, and quite rightly so. They also use their cars to drive around in, a novel concept but a good one. Third are those who just buy a restored car and use it as an investment more than a car. These are rarely driven, other than onto trailers to take to shows to win awards to boost their value. I like this book because it crosses those boundaries and I admire the author, despite his ommission, for a novel approach to what can be an expensive hobby. So should you buy this book? Yes!!! If you love, like or own an E Type then this book should be gathering dust on your shelves once you have read it several times. I would be happier for an updated version covering the differential removal but hey you cannot have everything in this world. From one E type owner to others, if you have not read this book then you should... You never know you might even attempt a few of those more onerous maintenance tasks yourself. Oh and finally I come from another less well known group of owners - those that actually use their cars on a regular basis. Thank you for reading my review of this book.Read full review
I’m really impressed with this book, the pics and text give a great insight into repairing and reassembling all of the significant parts and systems of the car. If you’re about to start working in yours I would recommend you buy a copy. It will save you time and money.
