I have used the superb Epson Stylus Photo P50 for the past eight years. It eventually wore out so I purchased this latest and supposedly better XP-55. I found it incredibly frustrating to use after the P50. Even printing simple things like envelopes was a pain. The online manual does not solve all of the queries that I wanted to know. Anyhow, the Epson help people were very good and after about ten emails going back and forth they explained how I could do this and that. The printing is excellent, but one has to alter many more things in printing preferences for example where the original P50 seemed to do them automatically. Incidentally, I'm not to bothered about printing photographs which I'm sure are excellent. All I want is to print letters, envelopes, CDs and labels. Which at last I can do following two weeks of stress....possibly due to me being a bit of an idiot.Read full review

The initial set up connecting the printer to computer using USB lead is easy. Setting it up to talk to your laptops, tablets, and smartphones is a pain and after giving up on the supplied software I ended up connecting them all using the manual method. I had the advantage of being an Integrated Systems Engineer before I retired but suspect anyone with a none technical background would really struggle with this printer. Now I have it all set up correctly I am impressed by its abilities. Great piece of kit if you have the time and skill to set it up correctly

(i) Setup. It's not the easiest to setup, (previous Epson printers have been plug in, run the setup program, you're ready to go). You'll need a cable which can reach from the printer to the first computer you're try to connect it with - luckily I had the one from the previous printer. You also need wi-fi (and its password) so the setup can inform the printer how to connect. Subsequent computers' setup don't need the cable as they can find the printer via the wi-fi. The setup seems to leave various things such as "Easy Print"; I'm used to desktop icons but not additional lines in File Explorer: I found this irritating. (Wi-Fi: I suspect there is an option to communicate with the printer if you don't use Wi-Fi. As my laptop only allows one open channel this wasn't an option for me.) (ii) Print quality The printer does well here. The prints seemed comparable to my previous printer. Printing simple documents seemed very quick - it is useful to have a quieter mode and an A4 paper tray. A4 photo paper goes in the top feed. I'm not so sure what happens if you try 6x4. (iii) Build quality I am not impressed as the various trays seem very plastic. I sense they need be handled with care. (iv) Features The two features to mention are if you only printed one document, after about 15 minutes the printer wakes up again and recharges. The other is the printer eventually turns itself off. So say at lunchtime you wanted to print, you now need to go over to the printer and turn it on again. (I used to leave my previous printers on continually and they had the logic to recharge if it was a while since the last print.) (v) Summary Probably best for occasional use as it can deliver good photos. I don't feel the build quality is sufficient for professional or heavy use. My previous Epson lasted 14 years, sadly I'm not so hopeful with this one.Read full review

Quality of photo prints are amazing - better than what I got in my local print lab. One bit of advice is follow instructions especially when printing using the rear feed (will stop multiple pages going through the printer with no printing)
