Bought this second hand Epson R1800 printer about a month ago now, it's only done light work so should be fairly like new? Before first connecting it up I had to find the Epson Website and download the drivers and manual, as the installation disc was not supplied with it. A tedious and annoying time waster, when all you want to do is get it working. Read the manual to make sure I installed the drivers Etc correctly, now switch it on and start printing, NO!. Two of the ink cartridge's were empty and two more were flashing low, so no printing today!. Ordered a continuous ink system for it as this would be more cost effective, along with a waste ink tank to avoid problems with the ink pads overflowing. So when it all arrived I started to install them. I wondered at this point what would happen if after installing these non standard items, the printer didn't print correctly or not at all? All fitted in OK, so now to do a print head test print out. Not good, had to clean the head four times to get a good test result and you can see how much ink your wasting in the new ink tank. So finally after getting the printer some eight days ago I get to see if it actually prints! Yes it prints fine and does everything like it should, is one of the best A3 sized printers around and secondhand is good value but if your going to buy one? 1, make sure you get the installation disk with it, it makes it so much easier to start and it shows that the previous owner cared enough to keep it safe. 2, make sure that non of the inks are empty and you can print out a print head test sheet, if your collecting it then see it working and print out one there and then, if it's being delivered then it should be the first thing to print off after connecting it up. After it's all up and running you can check for updated drivers and see about getting the cost of the ink cartridge's down, the waste ink tank was cheap enough and avoids ink pad replacement which is very expensive it requires you to reset the waste ink counter with a utility you download. You can find a repair manual online if you search, so minor tinkering can be done. So overall a good solid printer that copes well with A3 photo prints, prints cd/dvd's nicely but the software is a bit limiting, just make sure you've got enough room for it as it's quite big and takes up a whole corner of my home office.Read full review
Best photo printer that i have owned. Excellent colour and B&W printing. Inks are not expensive if you buy compatibles and as the printers are not available from new this does not affect any warrenties. A great all round A3+ colour printer and if you print mainly gloss images you have the choice of using the gloss optimiser ink. this coats the print with a sealed gloss finish which is hard to see the difference from a pro lab print.
I suppose the first thing to mention is that the Epson R1800 is not a domestic printer. It is designed for business or commercial use and for mass printing of high quality photographs. Made in 2005 you will struggle to buy a new one anywhere, for this reason then, second hand is the only option. I have always been wary of second hand printers due to nozzle problems and regrding most R1800 i have seen they always start to degenerate after 2 or three years of use. If you know how to restore them, or are willing to pay that extra few pennies to have it seen to by and Epson Technician then go ahead and grab yourself a bargain! If you are however, buying with the intention of producing professional prints with a 'Plug and Play' attitude then well think again! It may well be worth the extra dosh to buy a brand new printer which comes with a manufacture warranty.Read full review
Excellent quality prints and completely borderless. Prints quietly and reasonably quickly. Solidly built and I can get a ciss ink system for it.
I bought my R1800 some 3 years ago and was bought off ebay secondhand..It has stood me in good stead and i bought refillable cartridges which saved a lot on inks. it my be a bulky item but it does its job like it should and as long as it is kept up to dated it should last a lot longer.. 5 stars for this this printer.
