In recent years there has been a dramatic increase in the use of VDUs. At the same time there has been growing concern about their effects on the health of users. The bad effects of VDU usage can be minimised by appropriate design of systems, environment, etc, ie by due attention to the spectrum of ergomic factors. This report surveys the main areas that require ergomic attention. Particular health hazards are identified, and emphasis is given to the importance of applying what ergomic kwledge is already available. The report is intentionally brief - to aid readability and to avoid the danger of quickly running out-of-date in a situation of rapid techlogical change.
