Yes they cost about twice as much as a packet of standard Ernie Balls or D'addarios or whatever but when you compare the price to that of bass strings or violin strings we guitarists don't have it that bad. The difference between Cobalts and standard Slinkys is for me about stability. They have a different timbre and are slightly 'louder' than normal strings but if you do a lot of bending in your playing I recommend you check Cobalts out because I feel they stay in tune better. I don't have trem guitars but if I did I feel these strings would cope better with radical whammy antics than ordinary strings. At the end of the day it's a personal thing but I knew that when I bought and fitted my first set and I swear by Cobalts now. I would also submit that they degrade slower than regular strings and so changing them less often offsets their higher price. Check them out.Read full review

I used to use Ernie Ball Super Slinky guitar Strings, I say used to because I can't see myself using them again. The Slinky Cobalt sound amazing, last twice as long, and they are so easy to do bends...Just "AWESOME"!!!! Steve, Norwich.

I was due to replace my strat's Ernie Ball Super Slinkies and thought I would try EB's Cobalt strings. I am learning guitar so cannot give a professional view so here goes:- Any new strings will sound better and have more harmonics but the Cobalts were definitely more 'alive'. They appear to give a little more volume and have a slightly different sound from the Super Slinkies but I soon found this an advantage. The strings tuned up easily and after having a few stretches have kept in tune well. I use a multi-effects pedal with my own presets and I found that the new strings needed less resonance. The strings have good clarity and bend easily. I decided to rest my pick-ups (single coil) and found that raising the treble side was an advantage. Whilst balancing the pick-ups, it was clear that the Cobalts gave a clearer distinction between the 5 pick-up settings. Now I am used to them, I am enjoying playing these strings and would buy them again.Read full review
