I had read good reviews about the revival of this board game and decided to buy it for Christmas as the family were together and we all like playing different games. We spent hours learning the basics and playing it once and it was really good in that it is a tactical game played better when we realised the prisoners should work together to get one or more to escape. One player represents the German captors and the rest are the prisoners picking up cards to aid an escape, which the Germans obviously try to stop - all limited with the throw of the dice, cards that are picked up and co-operation between the prisoners. You play so many rounds and the first prisoner to make two escapes in that time wins, but it isn't easy. This is a game that will improve the more it is played and the nuances are understood. Unfortunately our son bagged the game as he and his wife will be playing it with their friends, so if I want to play more I'll have to buy another! Definitely a game to play over an evening with friends over a pizza and bottle of wine!Read full review

This is an excellent board game which the whole family can enjoy. The game's designer was a real military officer who was sent to the German prisoner of war camp known as Oflag IV-C (Castle Colditz) and he was one of the very few people to escape in 1942. The game is therefore based on actual first-hand evidence and is surprisingly realistic for a board game. One player has to play as the Germans and one to five players take the roles of the prisoners who are trying to escape. Tactics include attempting false escapes to lure guards into the wrong area and the game is very strategic and subtle.

Played this game as a kid, now playing it with my kids and they love it! It really shows through that it was created by POW's who were detained in Colditz. I can't recommend this enough.

This is without doubt the best board game I've ever played. Lots of strategy is required and just like the escape attempts of the POWs, a bit of luck is needed to. Very engaging, with lots of ways that the game can progress, with dynamic changes in play needed along the way. Really, really good. I had fond memories of playing Escape from Colditz as a teenager, and this 75th Anniversary edition is superbly created, with all the excitement of the original, plus some important clarifications too. Well recommended!
