Bit of a cock up on my part after discovering that my grinder could only JUST take a 20mm wheel (spec label says 13mm max!). The nut is only half on the spindle and that's after removing labels and flattening/reducing the supporting disks to reduce the width of the overall stack and getting as many threads as possible to engage. Therefore make sure that your grinder can take this wider wheel! Once this problem was sorted, the disk was a bit all over the shop, but this is understandable as the wheel beds in and becomes concentric(?) to the spindle. Although the wheel wobbles a little from left to right, it doesn't move backward ans forwards, which is where you want to be. It's now smooth when I grind my gouges and turning chisels and totally different from the first week or so. Using a wheel dresser is ESSENTIAL to getting your wheel to this state. I have reprofiled about 10 chisels/gouges that I was given 2nd hand, but the wheel is not noticably smaller. I do notice the odd very shallow groove in the wheel if I grind in the same place (which I try to avoid), but using the other part of the wheel (or the dresser) will get the wheel back to true in no time. All in all, happy with purchase. My only complaint is that the brittle grinding wheel was posted via royal mail in just a wheel-sized cardboard box... no extra padding at all! I shuddered when I discovered this and remembered back to the package being posted through the letterbox and dropping 1m onto a hard floor. Luckily after doing the ring test multiple times, I was confident enough to mount the wheel and the wheel's journey through the post hasn't caused any damage. I can easily imagine other wheels packaged in the same way being damaged by the postal system or the drop onto the hard floor from the letterbox!Read full review

This is the cheaper end of aluminium oxide wheels, but it’s a phenomenal improvement over carborundum. I wish I’d changed to aluminium oxide years ago. I’ve just taken up wood turning which forced me to change wheels to get a decent edge on my tools. The Faithfull wheel was the cheapest half decent brand I could find to venture into the world of aluminium oxide. The biggest difference over carborundum is that aluminium oxide cuts cooler and doesn’t grab at the tool being sharpened. I’ve even started using it to sharpen kitchen knives which are now sharper than they were new. My next wheel will be a “ruby” wheel, which is aluminium oxide with chromium oxide. But I will keep this Faithfull “white” wheel on the other side of the grinder. Definitely recommended as a starting point in the world of “better” grinding wheels or as a main grinding wheel if you’re pressed for cash.
