They don’t come much more American than this! A very powerful action thriller set in New York City following a couple of killers hell bent on being unpredictable and clever and using the media and justice system in their tangled web of crime. Most of the movie by image definition almost seems like it is actually shot on digital 8 video tapes! Actually this is very well done adding some sense of realism to an almost incredible madness. Following the first ‘fifteen minutes’ the film succeeds in generating a suspenseful feeling by it’s sheer brutality of direction. Why can’t we British make them like this? I particularly liked the inclusion of an unexpected laugh as well (unusual in this kind of movie) and some slight musical accompaniment. This all adds up to a winning entertainment formula that is original yet crudely depicted. You do get the feeling though that the central characters by acting style seem so hard and intent on impressing someone with their hardcore American accents. This one is well worth a look though.Read full review
15 Minutes has everything, great plot, a hard hitting thriller with a top notch cast of Robert de Niro and Ed Burns, the best, but infinitly more violent pairing since Starsky & Hutch! De Niro plays a homicide cop, the tough, street weary Eddie Flemming, he has girlfriend problems as well two mad Eastern Europeans filming and murdering their way across the city. Flemming teams up with Jordy Warsaw (Ed Burns),an arson investigator with a mild mannered personality. The pair have to stop the killers rampage. The action in this film is literally non-stop with some great humour thrown in. If you like your murders grisly you'll love 15 Minutes. The best scene of all when the killers meet De Niro in his apartment. It shows why De Niro has won those academy awards. Great supporting acting surprisingly, from Kelsey Grammer as a oily slick TV show presenter and Melina Kankaredes as De Niro's girlfriend. A roller coaster running time of 116 minutes, I guarantee you'll enjoy every one of them! If you havent already guessed the title refer to everybodies 15 minutes of fame, but thats about all you will guess. Not the usual run of the mill shoot em up and the good guys win, this film will have you biting your nails on the edge of your seat. 5 starsRead full review
This movie looked like the next best one to see in the canon of Robert De Niro action/crime cinema, it is easily as good, if not better, than his more recent offerings such as Righteous Kill. I like that this film has plenty of twists and turns, and gunplay. Edward Burns did turn in a convincing performance as the arson investigation officer. I felt the film was overlong, though. No disappointments really from De Niro here, typical fare, but overall an above-average thriller. Kind of matches up to (and/or surpasses) movies the likes of Die Hard with a Vengeance, Bandits, Righteous Kill.
Fifteen Minutes is a real action-packed thriller/crime DVD and Robert De Niro is excellent as always! Not your usual storyline by any means, and quite a disturbing movie, but it certainly makes you think about fame as well as the darker side of humanity, immigrants and crime. I'd recommend it to all De Niro fans, and it has the added bonus of an excellent David Gray track in it, too! For reasons of violence I suggest 18+ :)
