The story follows Brian Sweeney Fitzgerald, a crazed pioneer who plans to build an opera house in the middle of the Peruvian jungle. To raise the cash, he must exploit the local rubber industry. But to set up shop, he must somehow transfer a huge paddle steamer from one river system to another – over a parallel strip of dividing land. They really dont make them like this any more....they wouldnt dare!
A captivating film that dispite it's length keeps you engrossed thoughout. Typical off kilter theme by Herzog, follows a man as he endeavours to bring opera to an Amazonian jungle town.Played by Klaus Kinski, the dreamer must overcome rapids, enlist the help of hostile indians and drag his steamboat over a mountain. It's a film that I have always loved because it fills your imagination and leaves you with images that will remain in your mind for the rest of your life.
Fantastic film that could never be repeated or surpassed. Takes you to a world long passed and fast disappearing.Klaus Kinski brilliant performance along with the rest of the cast including not least the indians of the iquitos, coupled with the scenery of the Amazon make this a film you must see.
