I found out about this book when I was searching to understand how the fens were formed, why "fens" when it just flat dry land? This book gives answers that link into other parts of history and an understanding of the viewpoint of someone whose life is tied to the fens. It makes me want answers to other questions: How much power is required to keep the land dry? who pays for the pumping? and why isn't more being done to prevent coastal erosion as sea level rises?
