People are selling this was "waterproof" it is not, the camera has a IP67 rating the same as an iPhone (less than a Samsung S8), therefore the items water protection is limited to about 30 minutes of immersion in up to a meter or three feet of freshwater. This means it is water-resistant but not water-proof, official guidelines on IP67 state splash/shower proof so be careful and of no use for diving, swimming, wet areas.

WHY I PURCHASED THIS CAMERA. I take photographs on walking holidays and need a camera that can be used in wet weather. The Fuji Big Job HD-3W water resistant heavy duty camera has recently become available as “new-old-stock” in an attractive package that includes a case, batteries and a battery charger and I wondered whether this would be suitable. I LIKE Weather resistance Flat lens protector Big simple controls Clear menus Exposure compensation, white balance and ISO adjustments 1280 x 960 mode Use of standard AA batteries I DISLIKE Poor picture quality at full resolution For good pictures, it’s effectively only 1.2 mega pixels Screen too dark for full sun Lack of optical viewfinder No remote shutter release a.m./p.m. time format Can’t zoom when recording video Use of Xd picture card Picture card located in battery compartment No English manual. MORE DETAIL The camera that I purchased looks slightly different because it is fitted with an extra detachable lens protector. The camera manual available for download is in Japanese, which I don’t read. The following information was discovered by trial and from Fuji’s advertising. The camera has a 6 megapixel sensor, 3:1 zoom lens (equivalent to 28-84mm) and a built-in flash. It operates from two AA size batteries and uses Fuji/Olmpus Xd picture cards for image storage. There is a 3” backlit colour LCD which doubles as a viewfinder. CONTROLS The controls are either hard plastic or rubber coated. The shutter release, mode dial and power switch are on the top of the camera, whilst there is a zoom control, a playback button, a display switch and a four way selector with central o.k. button on the rear. All of these are quite chunky and it would be possible to operate the camera wearing reasonably thick gloves. MENUS AND MODES The menus are very simple and are shown in large characters on the 3” colour LCD. They are at most two levels deep. The best picture quality comes from combining the more than one physical pixel in a mode known as CALS which produces images of 1280 x 960. Auto and manual modes produce the full resolution of 2816x2112 and manual mode allows control over exposure compensation, white balance and ISO settings. There is no manual focus mode. Scene mode includes Portrait, Landscape, Sport, Night and text. Video can be shot at 640x480 or 320x240 with mono sound from the built in microphone. It is not possible to use the zoom whilst shooting video. There are two macro modes Flash can be auto, forced on, forced off or external. There are two colour modes and you can also shoot in monochrome. MY EXPERIENCE OF USING THE CAMERA. At nearly 500g when fitted with batteries, the camera was not light, but I found it easy to hold and the controls were easy to use. The picture quality was disappointing when operating at full resolution but good quality when using the 1280x960 CALS mode at wide angle and acceptable using CALS at full zoom. Also, full resolution pictures tended to be over-exposed on high contrast scenes. I found it difficult to correctly frame pictures of scenery as the LCD was in my near vision and the scene was in my distant vision. The display was not bright enough to use in sunlight. USES An image size of 1280x960 is ideal for illustrating reports & presentations. This camera could be very useful to teachers running field trips and sporting activities with an evening follow-up presentation. The picture quality at full size is not good enough for serious use.Read full review

This camera is very well built, originally aimed at building sites, factories and such locations. The controls are simple, easy to use and large - so they can be operated whilst wearing gloves. So if you want a small compact this is not for you! However,if you want a tough camera for tough situations, this may be ideal. Also it could be great for some children, where a normal camera might only last a few days or people requiring larger sized controls. The camera takes good images; the flash, macro and video are also good and the large 3 inch rear screen is excellent - very clear... one of the best I've seen. It has a handy internal memory in case your card gets full or you forget it and It uses easy to get AA batteries. The only real drawback is it takes xd cards which are not common and much more expensive than sd cards.Read full review
