This is the first sat nav I have used - always said I didn't need one, my internal navigation was good enough! However, having succumbed to getting one, I am really pleased with my new toy! The lady who talks to me is very polite and not at all patronising, and if I want to detour a bit from the stored route, the unit only takes a few seconds to re-calculate the route. I was very impressed with the speed zone indications and speed camera warnings, although on the M1 outside Sheffield, on the way to and from the M18, it was picking up the 50mph speed zone off the A road from Rotherham to Sheffield nearby and kept telling me I was going too fast when I was only doing 70mph - that was annoying, but stopped after about 5 minutes. The feature of showing a close-up of roundabouts and complex junctions is really useful and very clever. I can't think of anything I don't like about the Garmin, although I've not used the other, non-sat nav features yet. I have blue-toothed it to my mobile but not used it to receive calls yet. I have updated the maps to 2010 for the UK and ROI but not done the whole of Europe as I don't need them. That was easy enough once I'd down-loaded maps onto an external drive and not directly onto my laptop, which took all night and more and never completed! Once on the external drive, the update was completed within the hour. One thing that didn't come with the unit was an adaptor, which is essential to charge it up properly, especially for the first time. The on-line manual doesn't make it clear you need the charger either - doesn't say anything about the initial charging at all really, which was a tad annoying. But an email to the ebay sellers sorted the problem and I purchase the adaptor with no problems since. The battery now lasts for about the 3 hours stated. All in all, a very good unit and well worth the money. Well worth keeping updated too - alerts appear on the unit telling you when updates are available to download off the Garmin website.Read full review
Overall, I am happy with my Garmin nuvi 765T. Sadly, it can take it a couple of minutes to actually find my location and start giving directions, but once it does that it gives clear instructions, both visually and verbally. The short battery life is a real disappointment though, it seems to only last me approx three 20 minute car trips. In case of low battery you can charge it in the car, but still, it's a hassle and would have been much happier with a longer battery life. I mainly bought this product to use when I rent a car abroad, so I don't actually use it everyday; Might be a bit of a hassle to do that every morning, first for it to actually locate the satellite and then maybe needing to plug it into the car battery. But it suits my needs and on the whole, I am happy with it.
good bit of kit for the biker who cant afford a bike specific satnav, set it up puy headphones in, stick it in your pocket and away you go, cant fault it. If you buy second hand, get in touch with garmin with proof of purchase, they will de-register it from last owner then you can register it then you will find out like me if its been recalled like mine to get the battery changed because it overheats, they will do it free of charge then off you on your happy travels
Everything good
