I loved the idea that not all heroes are male and our children receive the wrong messages through stories from an early age, so I was keen to read this book. Yes the stories are positive and yes my girls were interested to read the book too. For me the book lacks real detail, the stories are too short and too superficial for a bedtime story, unless your read four of them! The 8 year old seemed to be quite happy and learnt something from the stories but like me the 12 year old felt they where a bit boring and would have been more inspirational if there had been something deeper to allow an emotional connection to the characters.

I bought this book for my granddaughter who needed some better role models than just a bunch of princesses. She has been very excited to learn about all these women who are amazing, smart, inventive, clever, creative, brave, etc. She reads about one each night and we discuss each person. This book is certainly inspiring her.

What an absolute disappointment and waste of money and time. After reading so much about this book I decided to buy it. Every single story starts with the phrase once upon a time ... but that is not the most boring part, the whole story is squashed in one side of the page. After my reading addictive daughter read it once, she could not recall maybe 1 story out of 100. I read it myself, and than I understand why. These terrific women should deserve a better narrator. The pictures in it are fine. I would definitely not recommend it to anybody unless it is rewritten by somebody who could actually write, in a way that could drag me in the story. Probably less famous person, and more sophisticated presentation, longer story's. Anyway, that is my side of it.
