If you like the Moody Blues, The Move or "The" Status Quo before they got The Blues, then you'll like Around Grapefruit. The songs are well crafted, very much of their time, tightly performed and enjoyable. This good value CD contains, as far as I can tell, almost all the recorded output by Grapefruit. Highlights: George Alexander's frenetic bass playing - is that a Rickenbacker? and "Marianne" (a cover), a nod to the Beach Boys and the Four Seasons, whilst the orchestral arrangements on some of the tracks are reminiscent of what the Moody Blues would later develop into a science. Low points - the recording quality is variable, but the worst affected tracks are duplicated with better versions later on in the collection. If you like your music from the 1960s but are looking something a little out of the ordinary, this is for you.Read full review
A good 60's band which we have been trying to get a copy of for a long time, they were a very under rated band, although The Beatles new they were good and took them under their wing. We particularly like Dear Delilah and The Elevator. A good buy for a true 60's fan.
