Green Day's Dookie will not disappoint if you like the singles Basket Case, When I Come Around et al, but don't go expecting any great work of modern rock. It's a pop album made with guitars and on that basis it's pretty good. Like the Wedding Present, all Green Day's songs sound pretty much the same but if you like that song, you'll like 'Dookie'.
I love this album because it is pure Green Day at their best. I think this is the second best album (Warning is the first) because not only are Billie Joe Armstrongs vocals amazing, Mike Dirnts and Billies Guitaring is fantastic and Tre Cools drumming is just the best. My favourite song is When I come around because it is so catchy and the guitar and vocals and drums are perfect! Recomend to any pop punk lover and anyone with a sense of humour. Do not buy if you don't like rock, swearing or have no sense of humour.
green day revealed themselves to a wider audience with this recording, as intelligent musicians with something to say to its target marketplace - disaffected youth. climbing out of the slime pool of punk dross, green day tapped into the mainstream radio listeners and consequently became big business both in airplay and revenue. full of catchy hooks with just enough angst to keep the youth happy but not too much to offend radio producers! get yourself a copy and listen to how to deliver punk to the world and shift big numbers in the process!
Green days First big hit album selling 10 million copies in the US alone. A mixture of brilliant raw rock with a tinge of punk rock. Track five is my personal favorite Titled "Welcome To Paradise" Writen by Billie Joe it's a mixture of punk/rock with a brilliant Bass playing solo in the middle of the track. A must buy for all green day fans.
