Being one of my favourite bands and actually being at the earls court concert mentioned in this book,I found it a very good read,I've read a few of the other books floating around and as with the others I found it funny in lots of places, quite informative,at the time this great band were doing the rounds I could never understand the constant put downs the British music mags kept giving them,it still puzzles me to this day, let's face it lots of the big bands around at that time were guilty of plagiarism in lots of ways but zeppelin always got most of the flack for it,maybe they were a little more guilty than the other bands, but who cares didn't they do it and do it so good,it's a great read and we'll worth a bit of anybody's spare time, highly reccommended.

While approaching this book, my personal expectations were rather high, as I have always considered "Led Zeppelin" the archetype of the perfect Rock band. In nothing more than a decade, they revolutionized the so-called popular music and basically created, like 20th century demiurgs, what we are since then used to refer to as "Rock" music by mixing together every kind of music they could: beat, rock'n'roll, blues, madrigale, acoustic, folk, psychedelic etc. Their trademarks, such as Robert Plant's wailing, powerful screams and Jimmy Page's glowing guitar solos (which layed the groundwork for the birth of "heavy metal", ten years after), along with their encyclopedic, majestic discography, represent a supreme example of musical virtuosity. I must confess I read this biography, that is quite long indeed, in no more than three days, in fact it is well-written, fluid and full of interesting anecdotes about the band and his famous entourage; the author has surely work hard in order to collect an huge quantity of data and to put it in a chronological order, so to give readers the chance to know the history of the band from day one and to follow their rise among the all-time music stardom, their professional achievements and personal failures. Everything related to the band (from personal backgrounds to the notorious excess) is deeply analysed and commented, providing an accurate inside-looking of one of the best (if not the best ever) Rock groups we have ever had. As far as I'm concerned, the only noticeable flaw I would feel obliged to report is the remarkable absence of any in-depth musical review: in this sense, a critical analysis of, at least, some of the group's most acclaimed song would have been very appreciated. To conclude, it is nothing more than a good book about Led Zeppelin: those of you that pay attention to the "sex, drugs and R'n'R" cliché will undobtedly find it awesome, but maybe the others, especially long-time fans, should look elsewhere.Read full review
