This is a simplified portrayal of Henry as a heroic king: all the bits of Shakespeare's play that cast him in a less-than-admirable light have been cut. However, as the film was released towards the end of the Second World War, the reason for showing Henry as a charismatic leader, successful in battle and who had right on his side is obvious. So it's a rather biased version but still a very entertaining film with the talented Laurence Olivier in the lead role.

Great film, impossible to watch without feeling its context. The film was made in the second world war and for France read the Nazis. Passionate performances, lush technicolor and imaginative staging make this one of the 20 films you really ought to see.
