My family took their first holiday here in 1959 and then again for the next 12yrs. We had a small wooden chalet in a field with only running water from a central stand pipe. Lighting and heating was by Calor gass bottles and we would spend the 6 week summer holiday here, then aged 6, some of the happiest times ever. Days were spent on the beach and in the penny arcades or fishing off the pier. I can remember the steamers which stopped on the way to London. The town had a carnival in August that ran the length of the high street, was a great day. This book captures all those memories for me, pictures show the then and now aspect of life and is well presented. The old buses and cars, the fashion of the day, the beach huts, all there to be remembered and loved.
