An important look at a significant event (or non-event) in history. I believe Mr Cornwell's interpretation of Pius XII's actions regarding the relationship between the Catholic church and Nazi Germany but I find the title of the book to be sensationally misleading. I don't think that Pius XII was acting for Hitler (and I don't think that Mr Cornwell suggests or says this) - I do think that Pius XII was acting in what he saw as being the best interests of the Catholic church. It is sad that the 'best interests' of the Catholic church are so often diametrically opposed to the supposed doctrine of the Catholic church. Given the statement made by Pope Francis in June of 2015 regarding what the allies should have done to challenge the Holocaust I suggest that the author may wish to send him a signed copy.Read full review
