Not as good as other episodes and is obviously constricted in quality by budgetry restraints. Hornblower the series is a fine portrayal of life at sea during the Napolionic Era--However this compares very unfavourably with Master and Commander regards authentisity and for sheer gripping life like adventure. Still reasonably enjoyable however.
A thoroughly enjoyable return to the hero that inspired the creation of Star Trek's James T. Kirk. It's watchable for the same reasons that the earlier series were; a decent plot adorned with many good Bits- you just can't work out if the production is taking itself seriously or not. Is it a spoof? It doesn't matter because it still makes you laugh and gaffaw, much in the same way that Sharpe did. They havn't done the dirty and made a thoroughly predictable Sailor Finds Wife story. The well-flawed heroes continue to make interesting viewing, though they have, perhaps deliberately, toned down the homoerotic subtext. Nothing to probe the depths of the human mind, perhaps, but good performances, and enough cryptic on-deck banter to make you wonder if they're all secretly really talking about something else all the time that we're completely unaware of.Read full review
