Bought second hand from ebay this has proved excellent value, rugged, good quality, enough detail for the price, like cab glazing and sprung buffers, and a good runner, well able to smoothly pull 10 coaches (I know it's freight) The colour and lining and graphics are superb. The motor drives the loco wheels, which all have pick ups, giving good continuity over points or dirty track. The original loco was the last steam driven loco built by BR, and as such makes it an icon, Hornby have done it justice.

Nice looking model visually and pretty good if you plan on only using on standard analogue control but not really great on dcc unless model was modified to have pickups on the tender wheels...otherwise expect random stalling on dcc more on points and spots where track is joined...its a shame really this model wasn't designed with a similar wiring system like R3396tts 9f crosti with pickups in the tender as this really helps the newer 9f models greatly on track more so for a dcc user. Good model but not the best by no means...hornby need to test their model designs more to ensure they work properly on both control systems flawlessly.

Excellent locomotive but watch out if you have tight turns on your layout, it will derail on them!
