The real stars of this film are Harry Fowler, who plays leading character Joe who, along with his teenaged pals set out to solve this intriguing mystery - and the bomb-sites of post-war London, where he and his mates hang around a lot and where much of the action takes place. It's like looking at another world - a world that was still hanging on into my own childhood, ten years after this film was made. This was, it seems, the very first of the "Ealing Comedies" - though it's more of a 'boys adventure ' than a comedy - even though there are surely funny moments in it! Highly recommended!

The films from the 1930s may be tame ( compared to today's) and dated but they are more atmospheric. You can't beat a classic golden oldie.

A definite film for the boys. There's action and adventure, 1940's cars, proper villains, East End bomb damage and the possibility of 3 bodies in a create. The film has something for everyone whether it be nostalgia for the 40's/50's, enjoyment of a British comedy or wishing you could be one of the gang. Best of all it has a great cast and a good story.
