Huff is the titular story of a psychiatrist who experiences the traumatic event of having to watch a young patient commit suicide in his office. His world is rocked by the event and he is forced to reassess his life and family situation as well as his abilities as a clinician. In other hands this could be an extremely tiring Hallmark movie-of-the-day scenario but Huff distinguishes itself as a story through its cast of characters. Hank Azaria is excellent as Huff and carries the show without ever swamping the supporting cast. Although the central narative concerns Huff, his family, friends and patients share equal focus. Of particular note is Huff's best friend Russel (Oliver Platt), an amoral lawyer and a marvellous TV character. Huff is gentle, mature, warming, funny and thought-provoking in equal measure with a superb cast and memorable scripts. It is immersive and casts a mirrored surface up to life reflecting an imperfect version of life back at you, like memories from dreams. If Huff has one weakness it is that there is no strong central narrative drive. The fallout from the suicide is concluded within the first few episodes. The remainder of the season follows the characters as they live their lives. The suicide is simply a door through which the world of Huff is opened to us.Read full review
I bought this item as a gift for my dad because I already own a copy myself - it is an excellent TV show which was shown late at night on the FX channel and didn't get nearly enough publicity - sometimes it got a little strange but basically it was about a normal guy trying to cope with what life threw at him from his family troubles (which were many) his work and his incredibly annoying yet also likeable pal. The season finale was a surprise and I am hoping that this returns for a 2nd season. Very enjoyable if you like things a little more realistic or need to take a break from all the cop shows/supernatural/sci-fi stuff.
fantastic series, good plot and story. All round good show. Disappointing that season two is not avaliable as season one leaves you wanting to watch more
This is the kind of show that most people would overlook due the storyline being dragged out for too much of the time and the twists, some OTT, being suddenly introduced in a short space of time. However the lack of tempo and general storyline is far from what this show is all about! - the acting...it is superbly done and credit to all those involved for bringing together a riveting and passionate production that other shows just lack. I got this because of the originality and mastery of the acting that got me hooked after a few episodes, which in today's day-and-age is rare. I hope other like this production as I would recommend this as I feel it is a real gem that will get overlooked because of it's anonymity among other popular shows.
Hugely enjoyable ... a story about the cycle of life and how us as adults get affected by everything around us no matter what our profession. Gripping and enthralling series.
