As this is one of my favourite films and have watched it many times I will not gush about it. I have the 165 minute commercial version. I bought this Criterion version as it is 197 minutes long. Alas some film is lost and Criterion did what they could with with the sound track and still photo's. I do thank them for their efforts as it cleared in my mind several plot points. I was not aware of the telephone call between Spencer Tracy and Buster Keeton, when Spencer was in the ice cream parlour. Criterion still do not have the full masterpiece. I watched the Cinerama version in 1964 at the Abby Cinema in Liverpool. I can remember one scene with husband and wife trapped in the hardware basement and the funny punch line when the wife starts to light 100's of candles. Her Husband stops pounding on an escape door to look around the basement at the flickering light, a moments silence, He then says in disbelief " The place looks like a Church".Read full review
