  • Compact guide as a useful introduction to Japan!

Useful introduction to the country by a non-Japanese academic. A bit of detail in some passages, cursory in others, but it gives some structure where the guide books don't provide. The political situation with a western veneer I find interesting, particularly the history that gave rise to this system in the first place is quite detailed. So coupled with Youtube videos and guide books, I am hoping that my first trip to the islands will be time well-spent!
