a great thumping semi prog rock stomp, big sound, etherial lyricsand themes, veering from dark and gothic one moment, to upbeat and slightly tongue in cheek the next.Ian Anderson on top form as usual. One of their more commercial albums but by no means a throwaway sell out.i bought it because its a damn fine listen with its almost spectoresque "wall of sound" type studio mixing.Uplifting.Recommended.
Jethro tull have released all sort of music, This has a Folk rock feel to it. The music conjours up feelings of the Dark ages while the lyrics are very much about modern problems with some humour thrown in ( check out Fallen on hard times ..The've taken away the Rolls Royce and the mink..you won't get lyrics like that on a Oasis album). I feel this is the pinnacle of Tull as the albums that followed could not compete with this. It's very rare to hear Tull play much of Broadsword live so hear a group at there creative height.
This album is one of the must have Jethro Tull albums. I first heard it many years ago and decided it was high time I owned a copy and CD was the best medium to buy as the years have moved on since I first listened to it on casette. The album has the its own unique theme and feel, like so may of the Tull collections and if you are a Tull fan or someone who enjoys poweful imagery and lyrics you will not be disappointed.
