This is a classic album by John Martyn when he was still a very acoustic based folk singer/guitarist, before his more electric, jazzy adventures. His voice is great on this album, as is his choice of accompanists - primarily Danny Thompson (Pentangle etc.) on double bass, whose playing sets off Martyn's delicate, sometimes intricate guitar perfectly. To my ears nearly every song on this album is a classic, especially "Head and Heart" (covered by Eric Clapton years later), "Bless the Weather", "Walk to the Water", "Back down the River", and what about the unexpected cover - "Singin' in the Rain"? It's a little (about 2 mins or so) gem! This album is over 30 years old but all you younger fans of Damien Rice and similar styles - give this a listen, you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Sounds as good as it did when I packed away my old record collection. Light, Bright and well done. A real treat. Highly recommended.
