An extraordinary performance by Tilda Swinton as an amoral, nihilistic woman who agrees to kidnap a young boy basically for money although she fools herself that she has other motives. she is matched by Horace Garcia Rojas as the boy who conveys fear and doubt as to her motives. Slowly she starts to value the child more than the money, which she gives up to keep him safe. The film remains unsentimental and Swinton's character is still no likeable at the end. I found it a uniquely convincing portrayal of female criminality.
