The Apple aluminum keyboards are the standard. They are probably the quietest ones you can find, and are also very compact on the desk. The issue is reliability, longevity and repairability. One key goes, and you throw the thing out and pay another £50 for a new one. The thing that prompted this purchase was that the left shift key on the Apple started to behave unpredictably. It was impossible to fix, so out it went and I have gone through some replacements before settling on the Kensington. The Cherry Stream is quite nice, but bigger and noisier. There is an HP, compact and fairly quiet, but less comfortable to type on. The Kensington is a bit noisier than the Apple, but its more that the Apple has a somewhat lower frequency and muffiled sound, and its in the same ballpark. All in this is well recommended if you are looking for a quiet laptop style keyboard that does not take up too much space on the desk. Feels well built and solid. In terms of typing feel, its on the same lines as the Apple. Maybe a bit more key travel, but not a lot. Just as comfortable once you are used to it. I do still regret the Apple a bit, but am not going to reward that kind of performance at that kind of price. If you feel the same, buy this one. The supplier shipped immediately and it arrived in good shape.Read full review
