Some people have described this film as "dated". It IS set in the 18th Century during the Post-Culloden carnage in the Highlands of Scotland - so don't expect hi-tech space gizmos or fast cars. Caine, Heilbron and Douglas are actors of supreme talent. A cockney Michael Caine playing Alan Breck Stewart? Well just watch... and this is how it is done. Crackling script, superb ensemble acting and cast, crisp direction... fantastic film, great location shooting, carries all the adventure, humour and pathos of Stevenson's Kidnapped (& Catriona). It has an ending which still sends a shiver up the spine. Never a disappointing watch. Beautiful film and a DVD to have and cherish. Mary Hopkin sings out the coda to 1 hour and 40 minutes of real quality.

This is a terrific film headed by Michael Caine as Alan Breck...along with other big names...such as Trevor Howard. Its very atmospheric.. and really manages to draw you into the film...along with great scenery, and top notch acting. The feel of the film is fantastic as it really does capture what things must of been like at that time. This film really is worth watching....you will love it!!

A good telling of the story, though the opening sequence is totally wrong showing the battlefield of Culloden hilly when in fact it was flat boggy ground.
