Pros: The Wilbour translation used here came out only a year after the book was published and is the one that stays closest to Hugo`s French. It is the translation that gets closest to Hugo`s idiom, poetry and style and is unabridged. Is published in two volumes so is easier to handle. This edition is also probably the cheapest. Cons: Some find this translation a bit antique and clunky and there are more modern translations, some of which are abridged and omit some of the historical data. For me the main disadvantage was the very small print which meant I had to read it in a very good light and take a break every now and then. That said have completed the roughly 1000 pages and am very glad that I did so!
