I have to come clean....I am a great fan of Gabriel Garcia Marquez the Author of Love in the Time of Cholera. I first read this book in 1990 and have returned to it on a number of occasions since so I approached the film with a dread that the task before the makers and actors would prove just too much.I am glad to say that I just loved every moment.I particularly liked the way that they played with the humour not necessarily dwelling on it but using the visual and passing on. Another feature which I liked was the journey on the River Boat which brought to the viewer the truth of what would have happened in the time of cholera. Although the film had to use the book title because the book is such a classic, I have talked to a number of people who did not go to see it because the title put them off. I bought the DVD because I saw the film twice and want to get be able to watch it when friends come round and enjoy their enjoyment of this lovely film.Read full review
First seen on Sky, I wanted to purchase this film for it's beautiful acting. The film is not as gruesome as it sounds, infact it is a tale of unrequited love. It tells the story of a sensitive, pure teenage man and what occurs when absence has torn away the woman he loves. A great girlie film, especially for those who are board with the 'American Teenage Dream' type romances that we are plagued with over and over again.
The film is good on the atmosphere of 19th century Cartegena and while it could never capture the complexity of the book it makes an excellent entertainment from a simplified version. This DVD has worth while director's comments on the compromises made.
Film keep flicking back and for, it was slow and i couldnt get into it, i can see now why it didnt make the cinemas
