The strap line reads 'Imagine if sex appeal came in a bottle'. No this is not a heavy drama about'date rape'spiking drinks and depressing subjects like that, but a feel good 'chick flick'romantic comedy built around the mysterious powers of a Gypsy Love Potion Paul (Tate Donovan),is given when he and his mates go to a seance one night for something to do. Pual, a biochemist, is a nice enough nerd, who would like to date girls, but his chat up lines are naff. Diane (Sandra Bullock)Pauls friend, who works in an animal behaviour lab, thinks she is ugly (how Sandra Bullock could think that about herself is beyond me, despite the sqiffy teeth the props department gave her, they soon disapear by the way)is also pretty naff when it comes to finding a boy. When Pauls cat accidently takes a lick of Love Potion No 9, all the male cats in neigbourhood go crazy, and when Diane's monkeys try it the female monkey's freak out. You got it. Paul and Diane make up a little aerosol spray of the magic potion for themselves, and independently do a little self experimention, which prove's highly successful. Imagine being able to date anyone you liked in the whole world, the Prince of England, or the entire female college sonority for example, just by opening your mouth, and saying something in front of them! But lets face it thats not real Lurv, is it? No, No, No, Paul and Diane have some really serious thinking to do before they find out for themselve what true Love really means. Spend a quiet evening watching this warm affable movie in the company of the delighful Sandra Bullock and equally charming Tate Donovan, your sure to enjoy it, if you like comfort comedies.Read full review
