This series heralds the last of the main character changes that occurred until M*A*S*H was wound up some three series later. The last character to leave was of course Radar, played by Gary Burghoff. The role of company clerk was then taken up by the hapless cross-dressing cpl. Max Klinger, played by Jamie Farr. A mammouth workload of paperwork and red tape seemed to keep Klinger occupied to a point where he abandonded his Transvestite Section 8 attempts shortly afterwards and with the odd exception wore his army-issue khakis until the very end. This series was also noted for containing a number of more poignant and overtly anti-war episodes (a classic example of this, is the episode: "Dreams") and began a less-than-subtle shift in direction, which moved M*A*S*H more towards a drama and away from being a comedy. All in all a worthwhile addition to any fan's collection.Read full review
This show is fantastic. I am almost 30, as I grew up I heard stories about it for years - the final episode being the most watched programme ever. I managed to catch it on satellite TV and I was hooked! It balances the drama and tragedy of the Korean War brilliantly with the comedic antics of the doctors and nurses trying to cope with trying to save lives on a daily basis. M*A*S*H became one of my firm favourites with Season 4, Colonel Potter is introduced - the second commander in the show who becomes a father figure to those under his command and entertains thoroughly - and also BJ Hunnicutt arrives to replace Trapper John as partner-in-crime to central character Hawkeye Pierce - the buddy dynamic is better here because in Seasons 1-3 the two actors seemed to be engaging in one-upmanship of performance whilst from Season 4 the actors form a real double-act which is smooth, very funny, at times touching and really adds to the show's foundation.Read full review
The entire M*A*S*H series is fabulous. Funny and endearing with well developed characters and excellent script writing. I've watched each episode many times and it never seems to get old. Owning the entire series is a must!
