This rockumentary film follows Madonna on her Blond Ambition World Tour in 1990 both on stage and behind the scenes with friends, dancers, celebrities, lover and family. It's no wonder that Madonna now regrets selling this film's rights to Miramax because she hates it so much and can't stop it from being sold on. Looking back at herself, as she was then in 1990, she must be ashamed if at least embarrassed. She comes across as the sort of person you'd expect her to be - a complete spoilt b*tch. This is a disappointment, because you can see from the live performances that she is an incredibly gifted artist who puts much thought, time and effort into her stage show, and refuses to change it for anyone (including the Toronto police). But her antics off-stage appear to be forced and over-acted just for the documentary. Maybe she was just behaving the way she thought people would expect her to? Having numerous discussions about sex, using bad language, being rude/arrogant to people, demanding this and that and so on. If this was the case then there's nothing for us to see, and this documentary really isn't that revealing. Technically this film is irritating for the way in which it switches from black and white off-stage, to colour on-stage then back again. Filming in black and white doesn't give the film any artistic merit, it just makes people look better in some light and this is probably why Madonna insists (even today - see "I'm Going To Tell You A Secret") on using black and white footage. To the viewer it's just annoying because black and white footage can miss alot - especially when it's grainy as is this. More disappointingly, only eight live songs from the tour are featured and not all of them in full length, so the viewer doesn't get to see much of an amazing show. I think Madonna would've done herself more favours had she issued a DVD of the full Blond Ambition show (as Japan had on laserdisc) and left us with that.Read full review
I decided to buy this DVD because i'm a huge fan of Madonna...i have followed her career since she started in the 1980's. This video showa Madonna in Private and public life... It shows her amazing Stage shows on her "Blonde Ambition" tour, and also the relationships she forms with her staff and Dancers. It is like a look around her world, and has all the songs that she is well known for around the world. we get an insight to what Madonna is really like, how she reacts to her fans and other celebrities. A brilliant film 10/10
This film was a big success when it was released in 1991. It was taped during Madonna's summer and autumn 1990 world tour, "The Blond Ambition Tour". Here we follow her both on and off stage. Much talked about was her then relationship with Warren Beatty; he wasn't too pleased about being filmed. We also remember Madonna's meeting with Antonio Banderas, little did we know that they 6 years later were to make "Evita" together!
I really enjoyed the DVD. The DVD shows Madonna at her worst as well as her best. The documentary was very insightful.
