This is about the tenth copy of Mere Christianity that I have bought - they are such a good introduction to the logical reasoning behind God and the Christian faith, that I cannot resist giving copies to friends and family and those that are interested! C. S. Lewis has got to be one of the greatest minds of the 20th century. This book was originally compiled from Lewis's BBC radio broadcasts to the nation during WW2, so there's lots of colloquial sayings like 'let the cat out of the bag' and 'a list as long as your arm', and things are always stated in a masculine tone, which was common of that age. Although these sort of terms would be unfamiliar to a younger audience, you have to realise that Lewis was actually using common, everyday speech of the period - to connect with as many people as he can; and it is that aspect that also underlines his brilliance - for he was able to adjust his language to be on the same level as fellow professors in Cambridge, or the labouring or agricultural worker in the street. But underlying all this is Lewis's ever-present consistent and devastating logical mind - a brilliant man and wonderful Christian. This book also carries a lot of dry humour, which I particularly like. If you like that sort of humour too - I would definitely recommend his book, The Screwtape Letters. So, to sum up - This is one of my favourite books of all time, and I thoroughly recommend it, 100%. Read full review

Theis is a truly iconic book, 'Jack' wasn't trying to persuade everyone to become Christian but jut saying what is like. Seems quite heavy to start with buy persevere as you soon become hooked. Like most of his other books it is remarkable.
