This planer is hefty and well made. It is easy to set up and use and leaves a very good finish (I have processed a batch of kiln dried ash boards of varying quality with no issues). It is VERY heavy to lift. I have installed mine on a plinth with heavy duty castors to make it easier to move around my workshop. If I had to find fault with it I would say that the dust extraction port is fiddly to attach but it does work just fine. I am very pleased with it and I think the sub £400 price was a bargain!

I brought this from new. and have had it for just over a year . Whilst it should be a good machine it has proved to be not the case . The chip extractor if hard to fit and does not allow the tables to be folded up so has to be taken off and refitted every time if you want to store it, it clogs with but only the smallest of shavings and the electric cable gets hit by the table folding . Despite dust extraction most of the chips seem to come out on the infeed table. The infeed roller only manages to feed through the smallest of timbers anything thicker than 50mm has to be forcibly pushed and pulled through . The supplied blades chipped after the second bit of oak and the feed rollers leave black marks on the finished surface. I would not buy again

Good quality & easy to use. Very wide choke & falling rather than raising cutting head are great features. A heavy unit, somewhere between fixed woodworking machinery & site kit. Will buy more Metabo products in the future.

I've been looking for a planer for sometime but I wanted one that wouldn't break the bank but had to last. This Metabo fits the bill, quality build with extra features you won't find on cheaper models. Fairly easy to setup although the extraction ejector was fiddly as the screws were quite tight to turn. Only ejects the shavings to the right not a big problem and the tray doesn't stow vertical once the extractor is fitted. Once setup the planer does its job and planes the wood to mere perfect smoothness. It's heavy but it's built well nothing flimsy, you can lockout the cutting head for repetitive planing so the vibration doesn't move your planing depth. Nice feature is the depth indicator so you see at a glance how much you will take off. I look forward to using this planer for years. Definitely worth paying the extra for a better quality planer. It is very easy to set up and the safety features are very good. I have only used it on pine, but the finish after planing is excellent. It is the best thicknesser I have used. It will take off any thickness up to 3mm per pass. I can thoroughly recommend it
