This film is all about nice suits, fast cars and ridiculously large power boats. I didn't like it that much the first time I saw it, but it's grown on me and is now in my DVD collection. Some great scenes, a lot of dialogue that you'll never understand and really nothing to do with Miami or Vice. Best line "I'll never doubt you". Enjoy!
Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx play Crockett and Tubbs in the movie update of the popular 80's TV series. Undercover narcotics cops investigating the drugs world in Florida, they are drawn into working for an arms trafficker, the wife of whom Crockett also gets romatically involved with. Cue a dangerous cat and mouse game which can only end with an explosive finale. This film is far more brutal and grittier than the TV series, but it's emphasis on style and mood are very inkeeping with the original vision of director Michael Mann. Foxx and Farrell make two excellent, believeable leads, but i think this film may be too intelligent or complicated for many casual viewers who might expect something more in the vein of 'Bad Boys'. This DVD features Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and is presented in 2.40:1 Anamorphic widescreen. Bonus features include a couple of features and a Music Video.Read full review
Imagine if Michael Mann had directed Scarface... His new spin on Miami Vice isn’t quite that sinister, bloody or sweary, but it’s no pastelly pastiche of his ’80s TV show either. Rather, his reimagining comes stacked with flashy lightning, rumbling thunder and edgy foreboding; an altogether darker take on coke-chasing cops Crockett and Tubbs, as they hurl themselves into the deadly world of drug-running, where only shades of grey lurk between the law and the lawless. Much of the immediacy is down to Vice’s visual grit. Sunnier and brighter it may be, but stylistically, Mann has simply relocated Collateral’s noirish trawl through twilight LA to Haiti, Columbia, Havana and, naturally, Miami.
I was always a fan of the 1980's TV series so I suppose that this movie was on a hiding to nothing before I ever sat down to watch it. The narrative on the sleeve had me excited about viewing it, but I was really disappointed. I found it to be slow in too many places and boring at times, and the sound was quite poor in places. I also thought that Farrell got too much of the screen-time when Foxx is clearly a very imposing presence on screen and in my opinion, should have had a greater share of the spoils. Would I watch it again? ... no. Would I buy it again? ... no. Will I be selling it on ebay? ... yes!
I saw in the cinema Miami Vice , and i decided to buy it after that , because i think it is a really good movie with good actors. And the price was good aswell.
