The only fair way to review Michael Bolton is to listen to it with 1983 ears, knowing nothing about the beast he would transform into years later after a few failed hard AOR rock releases, both with Blackjack in the late '70s and as a solo artist in the early-mid '80s. Either way, it's pretty safe to say this ain't your momma's Michael Bolton. Kick-off single "Fools Game" is a prime slice of '83 radio-rock, with a memorable keyboard riff in the chorus and a guitar solo from Bolton himself. Often sounding like Journey or heavy Eddie Money, many of the other tracks fall somewhere between generic and decent AOR, with the driving "Carrie" sticking out nice and wimpy junk like "I Almost Believed You" pointing to future miseries. Guest guitar from Bruce and Bob Kulick (KISS) on several tracks, along with Aldo "Fantasy" Nova as well. wallyum Dec 26 2007 Who's the hot old chick? Vinyl [Rating3820291] Hard as it is to believe, Michael Bolton was an up and coming rocker before he became the "soulful" crooner that made fat women wetter than day old Jello. This is really a pretty listenable effort, not heavy, but certainly not easy listening. Makes you wonder what could have been. I'm not big on the Journey sound, but Bolton has a voice better suited to "lite-metal" than Steve Perry. For all of you who know Michael Bolton as this generation's Tom Jones/Engelbert Humperdink, this album will come as something of a surprise. Did I say surprise? I caught the video for the song Fool's Game several times in the early days of MTV (in our town that was two years later than everyone else in the area,) and I was impressed with the song. IIRC, Michael is strutting around amidst dry ice slinging his axe and letting his hair flow while cranking out largely respectable AOR. I'd like to see justice done and have the song Fool's Game included in with Michael's greatest hits at some point in the future. The thought of all those "hard-core" fans of his expecting his normal pap and getting a dose of this keeps me smiling at inappropriate times even today.Read full review
With his soul sounding voice and his sexy style - well.....its excellant. Its a one for relaxing, romancing and a bit of heart ache lol its lovely. One or two tracks not heard before - but it does not spoil it for me.

I just love him....... Passionate voice. I had this CD but lost it as it was played so much. Good value. Just what I needed/
