As an individual who loves accuracy and the sound of musical instruments, i bought these Mitchell and Johnson Electrostatic Headphones as a special treat for myself, and i'm glad that i plunged on these expensive & exotic headphones. Long have i Lusted for the transparency and detail of electrostatic speakers ... and with these headphones this aesthetic passion has begun to be fulfilled. ` For comparison, i have the Avantree Audition Pro bluetooth headphones, which are even lighter and more comfortable. And if i had to choose between them, my preference is the Avantree ... because their clean detailed dynamics make every style of music ... sound larger than life. ` Yet these electrostatics have a valuable place for my collection of recorded music ... because these provide a reference which is is uncoloured by sweetness, distortion, or boosted bass. Their electrostatic rendition of voice and instruments like piano and clarinet can never be so cleanly reproduced by magnetically driven structures. These bring Randy Newman’s “Let’s Burn Down the Corn Field” to life, a song which is easily blurred into insignificance by inferior speakers. ` Thanks to these electrostatics, I'm hearing details and flourishes that eluded me for decades, while with a graphic equaliser, i can set the sound to whatever colouring i prefer. The promise of specs which range from 6 Hertz to 60,000 Hertz ... leaves regular hifi (at 20 to 20,000 Hz) restricted by a hard tech limit. ` I paid extra for the model with a walnut housing, and am pleased by the rigidity of the accoustic chambers - having an innate stiffness & damping superior to metal structures and nonComposite plastics. These exotic headphones look better than their photographs ; somehow photos don't do their aesthetics and robust construction justice. ` As an engineer i am intrigued by the technological breakthrough which enables the accoustic membrane to retain an electrical charge in its nanotech ingredients and their seamless crossover between the mechanical bass driver and the electrostatically-driven membrane. These technologicial innovations make a future collectors’ item of these high definition headspeakers, along with the end of manufacture due to a prolonged lull in discretionary spending. ` The sound is surprisingly full, with plenty of attack, which makes low volume listening full of detail and dynamics. Reviews elsewhere suggest that those who like heavy meal, disco, or rave music would prefer the Aintree Audition Pro at less than a third of the price. ` However, for traditionalists wanting near the original sound of Chopin, Django Reinhardt, Gary Moore, Trad Jazz, Tom Waites, and Procol Harum ... these headphones are my beginning for getting freshly reAcquainted with thousands of musical masterpieces. Yippee. These headphones are a keeper.Read full review
