OK, so its a "chick flick" but that cool. One of Julia Roberts earlier movies and you can see why she continues to be chosen for so many parts (mostly starring) in so many movies - comic, romantic, scary and everything in between. The other 2 actresses bring different but equally interesting takes on young women having fun and finding their way in the ups and downs of life in a small town.

A rare thing, a chick flick that's more than surface gloss. If you get past the 80's big hair you will find a film with great heart and a good story - recommended.
Three sporty and attractive young women living in a small fishing village on a river estuary, are each of them looking for a slice of heaven: at least that's what it says on their T shirts. Actually that refers to a slice of Pizza, as all three of them work in Liona's Mystic Pizza Parlour: two sisters, Daisy (Julia Roberts), and Kat (Anabeth Gish), along with thier soul mate JoJo (Lili Taylor). All three of them are heading in different directions in search of Love; JOJO goes for Hunky fisherman Bill, or more precisely a certain part of his anatomy, Daisy for a bit of rich 'white bread' who flashes into town in his red porsche, and Kat, who has her eye on a thirty year old married man,(a dead ringer for Bamber Gascoyne), who needs a baby sitter for his little daughter, while his wife's away. Kat makes up in brains what Daisy excels in,in looks (actually Kat's very pretty)and JoJo can't decide what she wants. One must'nt forget Liona, and her secret Pizza recipe around which this romantic comedy revolves. The film opens and ends with a wedding, finds jealousy in a tub of herrings, and heartache when Bamber's wife returns home from England. Sibling rivalry brings out the best and worst among the sisters with Kat having to 'wipe her conscience'and Daisy having to face a few home truths from her Mom, while JOJO gets more and more confused. All four women sparkle among the stars and comets in a delightful movie, well made and directed in the little town of Mystic, although why any of them would want to 'escape' from there as stated in the distributors strapline does'nt make sense, its the kind of location people would die for to live in,its such an idyllic place. Roberts, Taylor, and Gish, work wonderfully well together with a fine supporting cast to back them up. A slice of life from the Hollywood Dream Factory, cheesy but delicious, like Liona's four star Pizza's, worth enjoying a second time.Read full review
