Annual Money-Saver and High-speed Switch
Firstly, this Netgear GS308 8-port silent switch pays for itself. My old 1997 5-port switch used 10 watts, whether or not all 5 or no ports were busy doing just 10-100 Ethernet. Always ON, that worked out to about £12 a year in electricity cost. This little beauty has 8 ports, 1000-100-10, two thousand photos move through gigabit Ethernet SO QUICKLY, yet it uses ONLY HALF A WATT for much of the day and most of the night, and even when Netflix and huge file transfers are taking place only seems to need two watts, so is going to save me about £10 a year, paying for itself at eBay brand-new price in two years. The mains plug-in power supply of the previous old switch ran very hot, this one is barely off-ambient warm at any time. Secondly, did I mention it is FAST? These days my camera can take 7 frames a second at sport events, giving hundreds of RAW pictures at 35 MB each, now 60 gigabytes of images just zip across to attached storage. Netgear have done really well producing this small and economic piece of fast connective wizardry.Read full review

Great Little Desk or Wall Switch
With Gbps connectivity it's ideal for multiple devices. 7 ports are available. I set this up under a desk a short distance from the Router connecting 4 devices. It's Metallic design is stylish and not too light weight. The wall mounting option is the main selling point a feature usually missing in most desktop switches. Plug and Play design it was setup in 5 mins. I've some cable tidying to do and replacing with some shorter cables.

Top quality switch for internal home use
I switched to Fibre To The Premise (FTTP). It soon became apparent that cheap switches sourced from usual sources in the far east were throttling bandwidth inside the home (300Mpbs to router but on 50Mbps internally). This Netgear switch eliminated that bottleneck. Solid as a rock. Ultimately, you get what you pay for

Been using Netgear since 1990 and never been let down. Buying a cheap plastic alternative is a mistake. Prone to overheating and shorter life. I've got Netgear switches in my spares box that are only there because I have upgraded... So, Netgear switches are a great product and an investment...
