If you don't like foreign film, Jackie Chan films or having to read subtitles this film will change your opinion. The best way to think of New Police Story is like Batman Begins, but with Micheal Keaton (the best Batman) in the lead role. This is a progression of the original Triloggy. Jackie finds himself literally in the gutter after losing his SO19 style team to a gang of criminals that I can only describe as a mix of "A Clockwork Orange" and "XXX". With a sequence that tips his hat to his "Drunken Master" origins Chan is helped by a stranger and eventually finds his feet, but not in the usual Hollywood montarge way, you get to see the struggle unfold in front of you and you realise that Jackie Chan is an incredible actor as well as a performer, still doing most of his own stunts at fifty eight years old (when this film was made). The production quality is excellent so much so that after a while you forget that you're reading the subtitles at all. The film is as good as "Infernal Affairs" or anything Hollywood has to offer. Once you sink yourself into the film you can see what Chan is up to, this is without a doubt the best film he has ever made, but it is a platform for all the new actors to shine as well. Which most of them do masterfully. Look out for actors you will later see in films like "The Dark Knight", "Warrior King", "Ong Bak", "War", "Death Race" and "Tokyo Drift" to name a few. After this film I bet you won't be able to watch "Shanghi Noon", "The Tuxedo", "Rush Hour" or "The Medalion" (made the same year) without thinking to yourself "what a waste of tallet". Not only is this my favorite Jackie Chan film but one of my top five all time favorite films ever made. So unplug you phone, turn your mobile off, take the battery out of the door bell and give this film the time it deserves. RobRead full review
I have watched almost every Jackie Chan movie including Police Story 1 & 2 and so decided to buy this.Whilst it is not his best movie it is still enjoyable and worth watching.Stunts are good(Jackie performing all his own as usual)and storyline is OK but is perhaps a bit far fetched at times.Recommended for a good night in!
