    Wow!

The DK2 is a great introduction to VR if your unsure wether to splash out on a CV1. The hardest part is installation of the Oculus setup file, found on their website, this is mainly due to the fact that Oculus dont support the product anymore. So when you go to install your constantly told its not supported. Just skip most of the install, dont plug any hardware in before you do this step.  I didnt need the extra sdk files from the site. On my setup it said it could not find my head unit but it still works ok. Once software and hardware is set up you can go to the Oculus home screen or install Steam VR and use that. Both programs will go through a centering setup of the sensor. I found the steam set up the most straight forward. The head unit can be adjusted to give full coverage and the A lenses are the best if you wear glasses. You might have to adjust the head unit up or down in situ for a sharper screen. Sharpness can be ok but not to clear TV standards so dont expect pin sharp 1080p. Due to unfamiliarity it took me a couple of goes to get things right but its not too hard, out of the box and working less than an hour.  Im using windows 10 on a MSI Z170a board with a i56500 and GTX1060. The best bit of course are the games and i have quickly tried Apollo 11 and Elite Horizons within the short space of time i have had with this unit, less than two hours including install time.. I was blown away by the immersion of these two titles, the depth it gives you the first time ýou try it. I was totally overwhelmed looking around the cockpit of the Apollo and Elite ships. You really do just want to reach out and flip those switches.

Oculus DK2 ok for begginer VR gamers

After the premiere Oculus Rift CV1 and HTC Vive thats the cheapest way to try VR on your PC even used VR will be fine if you wanna try it how its work. For better image quality u should buy matte screen protector for u lenses (41mm/Circular) it will solve issue with screen-door effect (SDE) not entirely but it is hard to notice with this solution ;)

  • The best non touch VR you can get for a great price.

Unfortunately you cant use this with the new Oculus Touch controls but for non touch control games this is simply amazing and still massive value for money. Works with Oculus Store (although setup suggests it doesn't complete - IT DOES). If your on a budget get this today.......

  • Great value VR beginners kit. Recommended only for the 'tech savvy'

I would only recommend the DK2 to the more 'tech savvy' individual who wants to try out VR on a budget. It was not easy to set up the software because the latest version of Oculus Home no longer officially supports the DK2. Setup required me to run a command (I found on a forum) in Command Prompt to bypass a buggy update check. You then have to skip the hardware checks because it says it doesn't detect the headset (but it works anyway). Unfortunately the VR interface needs the hand controllers (not supported by the DK2) so you are stuck with using the on-screen menu only. Never mind though, there are still lots of free games and demos that work without the motion controllers, all of which you can access via the Oculus Home software. You just have to load them with the mouse on-screen. Works in Steam too!! Again it wasn't straight forward to set up. Basically you need to opt into the beta participation programme in Steam and SteamVR for the DK2 to work, but it DOES work! I use the Steam Controller and it works well with the DK2. Again there are a lot of games that don't require motion controllers. I just searched for Oculus Rift supported games within Steam that use a gamepad. There's lots to choose from. Requires a decent graphics card. I am using the MSI GTX 1050ti which is an entry level card and it works well on medium quality settings. Conclusion: Definitely worth it! There's still lots that you can do with this kit. A great starter package for first time VR users. The DK2 is not dead yet. Something to wet your appetite while you save up for the CV1 kit. Recommended!

  • Oldie but goldie

DK2 is not officially supported by Oculus store, but it's still a great product for VR developers as it is very affordable, comparing to CV version. If you want it to play the latest games, don't buy it, but if you want to start learning how to make VR go for it.

  • Great piece of kit

If you want to get into VR, but don't have an enormous pile of money to burn, this is a great place to start. Setting up is simple enough, but you will need 2 USB 3 ports for this. Steam was a little awkward at first, but there's instructions on Steam to help sort out any issues, and Oculus Home works as well. Works well with a GTX 970. As this is an earlier version of the Oculus, the requirements to get this to work are lower than the full release kit.

  • Super VR experience

The Rift CV1 has 25% more pixels at 600% more cost and it require more in terms of your PC system. This works great, playing elite horizons is a a stunning experience.
